Andrew N. Vega, MDOrthopedic Surgeon & Spine Specialist
Dr. Andrew N. Vega is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery. His clinical interests include degenerative conditions of the neck and lower back, nerve compression, spinal instability, and adult spinal deformity.
Dr. Vega earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Development from the University of Miami, graduating cum laude with a major in exercise physiology. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Southern California and Los Angeles General Medical Center, serving as Administrative Chief Resident in his final year, and went on to a fellowship in orthopaedic spine surgery at Brown University.
Dr. Vega's research examines spinal alignment: how the spine balances over the pelvis, how the cervical spine behaves in motion, and what changes when a deformity is corrected. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the Cervical Spine Research Society. He has contributed a textbook chapter on cartilage transplantation in the shoulder, and has received an Early Career Surgeon Grant from the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery and a place on the American Orthopaedic Association's Emerging Leaders Program.
Dr. Vega was born and raised in Miami and is returning to practice in his home city after training in Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Providence. He is fluent in English and Spanish. Outside of medicine, he enjoys weightlifting, fishing, scuba diving, hiking, and music.
